Charlotte Hoberg CBCC-KA

Hi, I’m Charlotte! I help people understand their dogs, not just change their behavior.

I’m a certified professional dog trainer and behavior consultant based in Severn, Maryland, specializing in reactivity, aggression, and complex behavior cases.

My approach is reinforcement-based, evidence-informed, and grounded in welfare. I look beyond the behavior itself to understand the whole dog: their emotional state, physical needs, environment, learning history, and relationship with their people.

Because meaningful behavior change isn’t about simply stopping unwanted behavior. It’s about helping dogs feel safe enough to learn, teaching them better skills, and giving their people the tools to understand why behavior happens in the first place.

Training Built Around the Dog in Front of Me

My background began with horses, where I developed an early appreciation for the nuances of pressure, communication, and behavior across species. Later, adopting a rescue dog with significant fear and aggression challenges showed me firsthand how inadequate surface-level solutions can be for dogs with complex needs. That experience ultimately led me to professionally study canine behavior, learning theory, and behavior modification.

Today, I bring that same curiosity to every dog I work with. There is no one-size-fits-all training plan. I prioritize clarity, motivation, thoughtful management, and practical skills that hold up in real life, while never sacrificing a dog’s emotional or physical wellbeing in pursuit of results.

Outside of pet dog training, I train and compete in Schutzhund (IGP) with my German Shepherds. Working at advanced levels of dog sport continues to deepen my understanding of motivation, communication, precision, and trust.

I’m also committed to continuing education through conferences, seminars, workshops, and mentorship so that my training continues to evolve alongside our understanding of dogs.

If you want more than a quick fix, and you’re ready to better understand the dog at the other end of the leash, you’re in the right place.
